Kilby Surname DNA Project

Visit the Project's Site

Project Background:

The project was started in late 2007 when several Kilby researchers decided to employ science in order to determine whether Kilby descendant lines are genetically related.

The current project mainly consists of the Y-DNA37 testing.  Results identify the deep ancestral origin of the paternal line. Depending on the uniqueness of the sample tested it will also point towards a more recent geographic region or country of origin. It includes a balanced panel of thirty-seven Y-chromosome Short Tandem Repeat, STR, markers.

The Y-DNA37 test currently costs $169 (US) and consists of providing some personal information along with a kit to collect cells from the inside of the mouth.

Due to the cost, we may want to look at a way to develop a fund to assist and encourage participation.

Project Goals:

Locate and test males with a direct paternal Kilby descendancy in sufficient quantity to create a meaningful data collection.

Project Status:

Currently we have 12 processed kits.  With participants from 4 known descendancies.  There is an additioinal kit listed for England; however, the chart does not identify which line is associated to it.
