10	[82139.ftw] Daniel Nazer was the smuggler in the family, also the one who lost allthe Nazer money, which apparently was quite a considerable amount.After his father died, he persuded his mother to let him buy a largelump of land on the Dover Cliffs, on which he built many houses. Soonafter there was a terrific storm and tidal wave and the whole lot slidinto the Channel. I have seen on an old naval map, the strip of waternamed 'Nazer's Folly' not too far from the Goodwin Sands. Another tale of Daniel is that his warehouse was burned down by theExcise men at one time. He smuggled lace and brandy. When ourgrandfather came home from school for holidays he always arrived inEngland looking very tubby. He had yards and yards of Valencienne lacewound round and round his body. That was why so many of the youngerNazers were educated in France. 11	[82139.ftw] Lily Ethel was the only one of Onesiphorus' children who did notmarry. Her career was in nursing. Before World War I she evidentlyhad a fairly senior nursing position in Hereford. During the war abig military hospital was built near Southhampton at Netley (somethingsimilar to Cornwall Hospital) and each county adopted and maintained award: Ethel was in charge of the Herefordshire ward, a post she heldtill the hopital closed. Afterwards she returned to Hereford She would visit us somtimes and while staying at our home I likedhere; but later learnt she had a reputati9on of being a bit 'bossy'(perhaps becuase of her years as matron) and because of this was notso popular as here sisters.
