This is in brief response to Ann Wagner's recent post asking about the Kilbys of Dennysville, Maine.  Her initial post is under the "Scottish Kilbys" thread.  Ann, you have a lot of work to do in terms of dates and places.  However, I do have some good news for you as in my database I did have Ferdinand Kilby, born 11 April 1845, son of Benjamin Kilby and Mary H. Stoddard (Benjamin's 2nd wife).  Ferdinand Kilby m. Myra Smith, though I do not have the date.

This line descends from William Kilby, b. 1763 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachussetts and who moved to Dennysville Maine in 1787.  His wife was Mary Wilder whom he married in 1787.  He died in 1829.

He is said in article about him titled "William Kilby of Dennysville, And His Family" published in the June 1891 issue of The Bangor Historical Magazine i to have been raised by his grandparents, Richard and Sarah (Cushing) Kilby.  There are many problems with this genealogy that have yet to be worked out.  Foremost of which is that there are several children ascribed as children of Richard Kilby who were born after he died.  And the only of his children who could be Richard's father is Richard, Jr., who was born 4 years after his first death!  As I wrote, a lot of problems.

Going to Benjamin, was the son of William Kilby of Dennysville, b. 1801.

We are quite certain of our relationship to the Dennysville, ME Kilbys -  as we can trace back to William Kilby d 1829  whose grandson John Kilby (d.  1917 Minneapolis, MN) have male descendants in the MPLS area namely Harry, Dale, Jack, Gregory (my husband) and my son Michael (20yrs).

I have copies of the 1994 "Kilby Day" pamphlet that lists  William Kilby b. 1763 Cohasset, MA as being the son of Sarah Kilby and Daniel Lincoln. Though for some reason the children retained not the name of Lincoln.   Drilling down on the site  connects Sarah all the way to John Kilby 1664 England.   Naturally I cannot fathom how all of this information is obtained... but cool if it is.

We live in NY now and would love to tour the area and if there is another "Kilby Day" participate.

-- So, I've answered my own question by conducting a bit of  research.  Didn't expect so many historical resources to be online and ready at my fingertips, and learned quite a bit about why William Kilby ended up in Maine with Theodore Lincoln (son of Gen Benjamin Lincoln). General Lincoln was the proprietor of that area of Maine  (William and Theodore were contemporaries in the Hingham, Mass area, but not directly related)  I also came across one reference that indicates General Benjamin Lincoln was William Kilby's legal guardian because both Daniel Lincoln his father, and Sarah Kilby had died.   Also traced him to Samuel Lincoln, the weaver... one of the founders of Hingham.
